Standalone shelves
Start here when you already own bins or need open shelves for mixed items. Check the usable gaps between levels and posts; fixed-height shelves can rule out a tall lidded tote even when the whole unit fits the wall.
Shelving-and-tote system
Consider a supplied-container package when you want the shelving and bins together. Confirm the selected bin count, lids and removal space. A nominal gallon size does not show that your existing containers fit the same openings.
Wall-mounted shelves
Consider wall shelves when the floor below must remain available. The wall construction and supported fastener arrangement decide whether this format is suitable; do not choose it from a headline load figure alone.

For totes you already own, check clear shelf width, depth and height, plus room to lift out a loaded tote. If a rail system suspends totes by their rims, confirm the exact tote and lid specified by its maker; shelf dimensions do not establish that connection.

  1. Fit the container, not just the unit: measure each lidded tote at its widest points, then compare clear shelf width, depth and height plus space to pull it out.
  2. Read the load scope and conditions: one shelf, a whole unit and a wall-mounted installation are different limits. Keep the exact model instructions and support conditions beside the number.
  3. Check what the chosen package supplies: empty shelving, a shelf-and-bin set and separate wall shelves leave different items or installation work to arrange.
